Swarm

“Swarm” is based on the concept of swarm intelligence, an approach to the exhibition without a formal hierarchy or central control.

“Ants and bees, as individual insects, have a modest intelligence, but overall they appear with an astonishing intelligence that we humans may learn from. The insects have no leaders and are not subject to any form of central control, but overall they act with astonishing intelligence”…
(Quote from “The Mysteries of Swarm Intelligence, Kristelig Dagblad August 2005 by Ole Hartling).

A swarm seems controlled but is uncontrollable. It looks very organized, but it is not easy to direct.

We connect the nerve and energy in a swarm with our way of working. Once the idea is set, we work individually at first and then gather to finally unite the many elements in a collective expression.

The result is a huge swarm of beauty shaped by shells, where the basic substance is abaca (banana fibers) with all sorts of seeds, stems and colors added.

The swarm is flanked by Baskets4life’s individual works, which reflect the group’s diverse approach to weaving.
